LYMAN E-MAIL ALERT PROGRAM

L.E.A.P.

This program is designed as a means of communication between Town hall and the citizens.  We plan to use the system to alert you of suspected crime activity or emergency situations with regards to local law enforcement.  For example several years ago we had a rash of vehicle break-ins in several neighborhoods in town.  These subjects went through unlocked cars searching for drugs or money.  In the process they damaged insides of the vehicle as well threw important papers in and around cars.  The department did apprehend these subjects, however if this system had been in place then, we may have been able to limit the number of vehicles that were involved.  The alert would have given everyone an opportunity to take precautions ie.  Lock their doors and to leave on outside lights and to be alert to any unusual sounds outside.  We want this to be a service to you the citizens.  But we are also asking you to be of service to us by alerting us to things going on in your neighborhoods and sharing information you may have that could help us keep you and your family safe. 

The second function will be to keep you informed of town proceedings.  Many people are not even aware of when the town holds Council meetings or Zoning Hearings.  These meetings involve you, your property, your business and your family.  Things that are discussed in Council meetings can have an affect on you personally.  Also most people aren’t aware that if they have a concern about something in their neighborhoods that they can request to appear before Council to talk with them about it.  These are things that you need to know about.  However, we do understand how limited everyone’s time can be and that is why this email program will be valuable to you.  In the alert system we will send out monthly council agenda’s so that you can see what the council will be talking about and voting on each month.  This way you will be able to decide if you want to attend the meetings.

Finally, the third function of the program will be to alert you to town events such as the Christmas parade, Lyman Fest and any other plans in which the town will participate.  We received numerous calls every year about these events and feel that we can better assist you with information via e-mail.  In the e-mails we will provide specific information as well as links that may help to answer any questions you may have.

The Town of Lyman is the ideal “small southern town”, full of charm and history with all the modern conveniences anyone could want.  The Mayor and Council as well as the employees here want to make our town as “user friendly” as possible.  We hope that this is a way of making Lyman a safer, better informed closer community.
